User Problems Concerning Functional Integration in Thirteen Organizations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Computer systems are functionally integrated if they have consistent user interfaces, can share data, and fit the work for which they are used. The extent to which lack of functional integration causes problems for users has been studied in 13 organizations in Norway in which the employees use more than one computer program in their work. Data has been gathered by means of a questionnaire, observation, and interviews. The results show that lack of functional integration is as great a problem as strain, long response time, and downtime. The greatest difficulty is that users do not have sufficient time to learn the systems they use. This is correlated to lack of functional integration and insufficient training and manuals. The interpretation of this correlation is that insufficient learning time is the clearest symptom of the other problems. In order to reduce the symptom, both better training and more consistent user interfaces are needed. When claims for new systems emerge, one should consider extended use or technical extensions to current software, before launching a new system development project or purchasing new software products. Further research on functional integration should include training/ learning issues.

A novel modification of decouple scaled boundary finite element method in fracture mechanics problems
In fracture mechanics and failure analysis, cracked media energy and consequently stress intensity factors (SIFs) play a crucial and significant role. Based on linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM), the SIFs and energy of cracked media may be estimated. This study presents the novel modification of decoupled scaled boundary finite element method (DSBFEM) to model cracked media. In this metho...
متن کاملBarriers and Triggers for Development for Functional Integration — A case study
Functional integration is the compatibility between the structure, culture and competence of an organization; and its computer systems, in particular the availability of data and functionality and the consistency of user interfaces. The paper aims at an initial identification of barriers and triggers for development for functional integration in user and development organizations. The paper pre...

Nowadays, quality management systems (QMS) are a main aspect of modern organizations. Basically these systems manage their business information processes (such as generic documents, quality records, templates, and procedures description) based on several media (text, images, audio, etc.) giving different groups of users different capabilities and visions of the system. The World Wide Web (WWW o...

Most organizations use an increasing number of applications and services to solve specific business problems. In many cases, these applications and services exist on different platforms and were created at different times. The challenge that most organizations now face is to provide a method by which these applications can work together to address business goals that constantly evolve. This pap...

Functional integration is the compatibility between the structure, culture and competence of an organization and its computer systems, specifically the availability of data and functionality and the consistency of user interfaces. Many people use more than one computer program in their work, and they experience problems relating to functional integration. Various solutions can be considered for...
